Across Nova Scotia, communities are taking significant steps to improve and build new cycling and active transportation networks that span municipalities, regions and, in some cases, the entire province. Concurrently, Bicycle Nova Scotia is also actively planning and developing the Blue Route—a 3,000-kilometre provincial cycling network of bicycle routes on rural roads, on-street bikeway facilities, pathways and trails.

Following bike route development in Nova Scotia, each community group throughout the province is implementing and installing separate wayfinding tools on different trails and bicycle routes. Once all the routes are being completed, it will consist of many junctions, routes and connections. Different sign styles and approaches on a complicated province-wide network may confuse and overwhelm visitors as they carry on their journey. Our mission was to design a consistent wayfinding system through the network to provide a better experience for both local and touring cyclists. The guide should help route managers collaborate, coordinate and plan their operations to provide enhanced user experiences through consistent wayfinding conventions. My role in this project was to design the layout of the guide and draw all the illustrations and production files for the signage system.
